Abstract
Objectives: This study was performed to suggest some implications for leading organizations for community organizing by comparing their members with general population, and analyzing changes in health behaviors and social capital indices after 3 years of their activities.

Methods: A total of 228 health committee members from 10 administrative sections (eup, myeon, or dong) provided self-administered questionnaires in 2012, and 149 of them kept their posts and 130 of them (response rate, 87.2%) completed second ones in 2015.

Results: Health committee members were statistically different in socio-demographic characteristics, health behaviors, and social capital indices. They were desirable in most health behaviors, and higher in social capital. After 3 years, they had more regular exercises and healthy diet scores, and had higher social participation. Their perception of community problems were higher than that of general population in 2012, and became lower in 2015.

Conclusions: This study suggests that the three-year activities as health committee members might have helped to make more desirable their health behaviors and social capital indices. However, there might be other options than to establish health committees for effective community organizing in the literature.
